    2nd ANNUAL UNICEF MASQUERADE BALL

On Thursday, October 27, 2011, Co-Chairs Danielle Abraham, John W. Kluge Jr. and Gillian Hearst Simonds hosted the 2nd Annual UNICEF Masquerade Ball, an unforgettable Halloween costume gala that benefits UNICEF’s life-saving programs and initiatives around the globe.

Presented by Hearst, the gala was hosted by UNICEF’s Next Generation, a committee of young supporters—like Jenna Bush Hager, Lauren Bush and David Lauren – and featured live performances by Hey Champ, DJ Mia Moretti and Magician Josh Beckerman. Additional attendees included: Carrie Keagan, Henry Hager, Kipton Cronkite, Nell Diamond, US Fund for UNICEF President and CEO Caryl Stern and Star Wars Storm Troopers.

Now in its second year, the Masquerade Ball is the only Halloween-themed fundraiser to be introduced by the U.S. Fund for UNICEF in recent years since the launch of Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF 61 years ago.

UNICEF’s Next Generation was started by the U.S. Fund for UNICEF’s Young Leadership Ambassador Jenna Bush Hager. A diverse group of young professionals ages 21 to 40, Next Generation allows younger supporters to engage their peers on UNICEF’s mission of doing whatever it takes to give children the essentials for a safe and healthy childhood. They commit their time, voice, financial resources and energy to improving the lives of children everywhere. Next Generation has raised more than $1 million for UNICEF’s programs worldwide since 2009. To learn more and join UNICEF’s Next Generation, visit www.unicefusa.org/nextgeneration.

UNICEF has saved more children's lives than any other humanitarian organization in the world. Working in more than 150 countries, UNICEF provides children with health care, clean water, nutrition, education, emergency relief, and more. The U.S. Fund for UNICEF supports UNICEF's work through fundraising, advocacy, and education in the United States.

UNICEF is at the forefront of efforts to reduce child mortality worldwide. There has been substantial progress: the annual number of under-five deaths dropped from 13 million in 1990 to 8.1 million in 2009. But still, 21,000 children die each day from preventable causes. Our mission is to do whatever it takes to make that number zero by giving children the essentials for a safe and healthy childhood. For more information, visit www.unicefusa.org.

The U.S. Fund for UNICEF would like to specially thank Masquerade Ball Presenting Sponsor Hearst Corporation and to Piper Heidstick for donating its champagne for the event.

The costume fete will also celebrate UNICEF’s Trick-or-Treat Campaign, one of America’s favorite Halloween traditions for more than 60 years. The U.S. Fund for UNICEF is grateful for the support of premier Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF media sponsor HGTV, national sponsor Key Club International, and proud supporter Crocs Caressm, the philanthropic division of Crocs, Inc. Kids and families can obtain the signature Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF collection boxes at Crocs stores nationwide through October 31, while supplies last.
