Jack N' For Beats Rap Competition at the Roc N Sole Store!
The Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey sponsored rap competition Jack N' For Beats went down at the Roc N Sole store on Atlantic Avenue where competitors battled for a chance to win $10,000 and a studio session with DJ Khaled and A&R Director AJ Ahmed. The store was packed full of aspiring MC's looking to take the #1 spot. The competition, separated into several rounds where rappers chose a beat and spit 16 bars of their best rhymes, drew talent from all over NYC, New Jersey, and upstate New York hoping to make it to the last round where they would then be put up against other winners from across the nation.
Winner, Jadon Woodard, killed the competition hands down. With the audience in a roar after his final line; "stop acting dumb hard" it was very clear who the winner was. His ability to freestyle on command, tactfully approach his competitors weaknesses, yet overall laid back demeanor made him shine in the last round.
After the competition, Style Music TV had the opportunity to sit down with the Director of A&R for Jack N' For Beats; AJ Ahmed:
"I'm happy we had a decent turn out and the cool thing was everybody respected each other, everybody was chill even though [the winner] murdered the competition. It was a cool setting and a good look for everybody."
"The cool thing is for Jack Honey to do this is a big look for the community."
When asked how would AJ compare the NYC edition with the other tour stops:
"I think the energy was cool.. I love that fact that heavyweights like Envy, Suss One, Ty Ty, and Emory were all in the house. Like you don't get that opportunity to be that close to them to be like 'yo you heard me?' That's the type of stuff that we offer that no body else does... New York had the heavy hitters for sure."
When asked about what artists need in order to really blow up:
"I think consistency. There's so many rappers, everybody is a rapper nowadays. So if you don't have the consistency or the drive to make it, you could see thousands of other people."
When discussing what made the winner, Jadon Woodard, stand out:
"He stood out cause he had better flow, better delivery; he was able to captivate the crowd. A lot of them that came up to the mic were nervous and also didn't really project their voice. When you don't project your voice you also show a sign that you're nervous to talk in front of a crowd. Some of them said the same bars four, five times and that's how they got disqualified."
Overall, the NYC stop for the Jack N' For Beats competition was an exciting evening and a great opportunity for everyone involved.
